Aproxima-se o Halloween e começamos a pensar em estilos não só assustadores, mas também místicos. Há algo de assustador no mistério, não é? Vou falar um pouco sobre como podemos adotar o estilo místico e aprofundar a reflexão para o que será, efetivamente, ser místico.

#1 Como criar um estilo místico?

Em primeiro lugar, podemos pensar na roupa e/ou acessórios. Raramente associamos o estilo místico a peças modernas. A modelo da foto utiliza peças dentro de um estilo medieval, ainda que possam ter confeção moderna, claro. Todas as peças e acessórios que apresenta parecem antigos. Assim, para obter um estilo místico é de considerar o uso de peças temáticas, como as medievais, combinadas com peças vintage.

Os brincos que apresento como sugestão são pequenas rosas negras em feltro e ficariam bem com este look, acentuando não tanto a antiguidade, mas a misticidade. É que a rosa é um elemento com um simbolismo rico, representando também a alma. E, a cor negra associa-se ao oculto.

O material dos brincos, o feltro, um tecido quente, de lã ou de outros pelos de animais, é indicado para a estação do outono.

Assim, com o outfit certo, mais vintage ou até temático, como o tema medieval, e os acessórios certos podemos conseguir um estilo místico perfeito para o Dia das Bruxas.

#1 How to create a mystical style? 

First, we think about clothing and/or accessories. We rarely associate the mystical style with modern clothes. The model in the photo uses clothes in a medieval style, although they may be modern, of course. All the clothes and accessories she presents look old. So, to get a mystical style you should consider the use of themed items, such as medieval ones, combined with vintage items. 

The stud earrings I present as a suggestion are small black felt roses and would go well with this look, accentuating not so much the antiquity but the mysticity. The rose is an element with rich symbolism, also representing the soul. And, the black color represents the occult. 

The material of the earrings, felt, a warm fabric, wool or other animal hair, is suitable for the autumn season. 

So, with the right outfit, vintage or even themed, like the medieval theme, and the right accessories we can get a mystical style perfect for Halloween.



#2 Como ser místico?

Esta é uma pergunta de resposta muito mais complexa. A modelo parece que vai aprender ou ensinar algo sobre mistérios, sobre o mundo oculto. Isto está representado nos olhos dela. Um dos olhos vê o mundo exterior, o outro aparenta não ver, mas talvez veja o oculto, porque é um olho oculto também.

Assim, diria que não se aprende apenas com o que está imediatamente manifesto e é exposto para aprendizagem, como os livros. Aprende-se, observando todos os detalhes da vida à nossa volta. Aprende-se com o que não parece imediatamente relevante. Penso que assim se adquire a subtileza necessária para nos aproximarmos dos mistérios.

E, há ainda a aprendizagem do que não podemos observar com o sentido da visão, mas que conseguimos perceber. Um exemplo muito simples são os sonhos que se têm de noite, são imagens que recordamos, mas, na verdade, naquele momento não são captadas com o sentido da visão.

Assim, considerar este lado misterioso fará parte de uma atitude mais mística.


#2 How to be mystic? 

This is a much more complex answer. The model looks like she's going to learn or teach something about mysteries, about the occult world. This is represented in her eyes. One eye sees the outside world, the other doesn't seem to see, but maybe it sees the hidden, because it's a hidden eye too. 

So, I would say that you don't just learn from what is immediately manifest and exposed for learning, like books. We can learn by observing all the details of life around us. We learn from what doesn't seem immediately relevant. I think that in this way we acquire the necessary subtlety to approach the mysteries. 

And, there is also the learning of what we cannot observe with the sense of sight, but which we can perceive. A very simple example is the dreams we have at night, they are images that we remember, but actually, at that moment, they are not captured with the sense of sight. 

So, considering this mysterious side is part of a more mystical attitude.



#3 Como explorar a sensibilidade para o oculto?

Crie um diário para reflexões ou um diário de sonhos. Desenhe ou pinte da forma mais espontânea possível. Cante e dance sem preocupação com a técnica, medite, permaneça sozinho em alguns momentos. E, confronte crenças, preconceitos, estereótipos, padrões que encontra em si. Este é um caminho para a liberdade, para nos vermos mais, para nos conhecermos, e para nos expressarmos melhor. O que pensam a este respeito?


#3 How to explore sensitivity to the occult? 

Create a reflection journal or a dream journal. Draw or paint as spontaneously as possible. Sing and dance without worrying about technique, meditate, remain alone for a few moments. And, confront beliefs, prejudices, stereotypes, patterns you find in yourself. This is a path to freedom, to see yourself more, to know yourself, and to express yourself better. #1 Como escolher a roupa?

O estilo vintage é aquele que integra peças antigas no estilo das que foram usadas no passado, nomeadamente no período entre 1920 e 1970.

Este estilo é arriscado, pode ficar chique e resultar, mas pode, pelo contrário, ficar demasiado antigo e dar um aspeto mais velho à pessoa. Uma forma de garantir o sucesso do look é evitar os excessos. Assim, o estilo vintage pode ser conseguido combinando algumas peças características da época com outras peças mais modernas e neutras.

As peças vintage têm padrões, como padrões florais, que é o caso da saia que a modelo usa na foto. E, têm cores características. Por exemplo, o tom pálido de vermelho da camisola e o tom pálido de verde das meias sugerem alguma qualidade antiga. 

Se notarem, a saia e a camisola apresentam tons claros, leves, e harmónicos, já que as flores da saia têm uma cor semelhante à da camisola. O look fica muito feminino e romântico, com a cor rosa e as flores pequeninas. Esta qualidade delicada e discreta da roupa permite o equilíbrio com o ponto mais arrojado do look, as meias e os sapatos. Os sapatos são o ponto de destaque, são estilo boneca e com uma cor azul vibrante.


#1 How to choose clothes?

The vintage style integrates old pieces like those that were used in the past, namely in the period between 1920 and 1970. 

This style is risky, it can look chic and work, but it can, on the contrary, get too old and give the person an older look. One way to guarantee the success of the look is to avoid excesses. Thus, the vintage style can be achieved by combining some characteristic pieces of the period with other more modern and neutral. 

The vintage pieces have patterns, such as floral patterns, which is the case of the model's skirt. And, they have characteristic colors. For example, the pale red of the jersey and the pale green of the socks suggest some old quality. 

If you notice, the skirt and jersey have light and harmonious tones, as the flowers on the skirt are similar in color to the jersey. The look is very feminine and romantic, with the pink color and tiny flowers. This delicate and discreet quality of the clothes balances with the most daring point of the look, socks and shoes. The shoes are the highlight, they are doll style and in a vibrant blue color.



#2 Como escolher a bijuteria?

Os brincos que proponho seriam um ótimo acrescento ao look. O cobre e o latão são materiais que permitem um aspeto antigo e, neste caso, conjugariam bem com a pulseira que também tem os mesmos tons destes metais.

Além disso, os brincos têm uma pedra natural de cor verde pálida, ficando na mesma gama de cores das meias.

O formato redondo dos brincos ficaria bem no rosto longo da modelo.

A bijuteria, e outros acessórios, com as características certas, enriquecerão um look vintage. Mas, também se pode começar a adotar o look com alguma segurança, utilizando apenas a bijuteria e os acessórios.


#2 How to choose costume jewelry? 

The earrings I propose would be a great addition to the look. Copper and brass are materials that allow for an antique look and, in this case, would go well with the bracelet, which also has the same tones of these metals. 

In addition, the earrings have a pale green natural stone, in the same color range as the socks. 

The round shape of the earrings would look good on the model's long face. 

Costume jewelry, and other accessories, with the right characteristics, will enrich a vintage look. But, you can also start to adopt the look with some security, using only jewelry and accessories.



#3 Como é que a atitude contribui para o look?

Diria que a atitude é um elemento importante, talvez o mais importante. A atitude, que se associa à autoestima, contribuirá para a imagem que temos de nós mesmos, para a nossa segurança e confiança. Principalmente se o look é mais arrojado e vistoso, a pessoa pode sentir-se um pouco intimidada ao usá-lo.

Muitas vezes, a pessoa tem de fazer um trabalho de autoconhecimento para perceber a forma como realmente gosta de se vestir e, assim, ir integrando gradualmente as peças que tem a certeza de que gosta. Este trabalho é gradual, porque assumir a nossa própria verdade também o pode ser. Ou seja, é uma questão de autodescoberta.

Mas, para que a autodescoberta aconteça, é necessário deixar cair padrões que a bloqueiam, como ideias de que não ficaríamos bem ao sair da zona de conforto. É importante deixar aquilo que não faz sentido na nossa vida e seguir aquilo que faz sentido para nós.

A aparência é apenas a aparência, superficial, embora também importante. Mas, o trabalho começará no coração, porque é aí que encontramos a segurança e a confiança. Depois, isso manifestar-se-á não só internamente, mas também externamente.


#3 How does attitude contribute to the look? 

I would say that attitude is an important element, perhaps the most important. Attitude, which is associated with self-esteem, will contribute to the image we have of ourselves, to our security and confidence. Especially if the look is more daring and showy, the person may feel a little intimidated when using it. 

Often, the people has to do a work of self-knowledge to understand how they really like to dress and, thus, gradually integrate the pieces that they like. This work is gradual, because assuming our own truth can also be. In other words, it's a matter of self-discovery. 

But for self-discovery to happen, it is necessary to drop patterns that block it, such as ideas that we would not be okay stepping out of our comfort zone. It's important to leave what doesn't make sense in our life and follow what makes sense to us. 

Appearance is just appearance, superficial but also important. But, the work will start in the heart, because that's where we find security and confidence. Then it will manifest itself not only internally, but externally as well.

#1 Qual o formato de rosto que é mais favorecido com brincos redondos?

Normalmente, os brincos favorecem um tipo de rosto que é diferente da forma dos brincos, porque esta diferença permite obter um equilíbrio. Por exemplo, um rosto redondo é mais favorecido com brincos longos do que com brincos redondos.

Assim, os brincos redondos ficam especialmente bem num rosto longo, uma vez que dão volume na zona lateral do rosto, que já não parece tão comprido. Podem ser utilizados, portanto, brincos com círculos médios ou grandes.

Como este modelo de brincos confere volume na zona lateral do rosto e também mais baixa, ficam igualmente bem num rosto com formato de diamante. Isto é, um rosto com as maçãs mais largas, que dá a impressão de um triângulo invertido.

Um rosto mais quadrado também é favorecido com brincos redondos, mas de tamanho mais pequeno do que os da imagem acima.

A forma de rosto oval fica bem com todos os brincos.

#3 Como usar brincos de estilo rústico com forma redonda?

Este estilo de brincos é rústico, tanto pelos materiais utilizados como pelo seu formato. O cobre adquire um tom de castanho escuro dourado, o que contribui para uma aparência mais natural e antiga. E, as pedras naturais e as contas de madeira têm tons da natureza, verde e terra. As formas irregulares, obtidas com a modelação do arame de cobre, também dão um toque rudimentar.

Os brincos redondos rústicos, em tons terra, ficam bem com padrões étnicos geométricos ou de animais com cores vivas, como o lenço que a modelo tem na foto, porque acentuam o estilo, funcionando como peças complementares. Ou seja, uma peça mais colorida, associada a culturas com histórias antigas, ligadas à terra, com padrões que muitas vezes simbolizam ritmos e elementos naturais, é combinada com uma peça com os tons mais neutros da natureza. Obtém-se, assim, uma harmonia na combinação destes dois tipos de acessório, no caso da imagem, o lenço e os brincos sugeridos.


#3 How to wear round shaped rustic style earrings?

This style of earrings is rustic, both for the materials used and for its shape. Copper takes on a golden, dark brown tone, which contributes to a more natural and older look. And, the natural stones and wooden beads have green and earth tones. The irregular shapes, obtained with copper wire shaping, also give a rudimentary touch.

The round rustic earrings, in earth tones, go well with ethnic brightly colored geometric patterns or  animal patterns, like the scarf that the model has in the photo, because they accentuate the style, working as complementary items. In other words, a more colorful piece, associated with cultures with ancient histories, linked to the earth, with patterns that often symbolize rhythms and natural elements, is combined with a piece with the most neutral tones of nature. Thus, a harmony is obtained in the combination of these two types of accessory, in the case of the image, the scarf and the suggested earrings.

Envernizar pintura acrílica em papel? I Should I varnish acrylic paint on paper? I

Olá, leitores! A publicação de hoje surge no seguimento daquela questão das pinturas envernizadas não parecerem completamente secas ao toque. Falei disto em "Envernizar pintura acrílica em papel?" Consegui, entretanto, resolver a questão, pelo que vou manter o acabamento em verniz nas pinturas em pequeno formato em papel, porque considero que fica mais bonito! Esta publicação é sobre uma questão técnica e talvez esteja mais direcionada para quem gosta de trabalhar em artes e artesanato. Então, como procedi?


Hi readers! Today's post is about that issue of varnished paintings not looking completely dry to the touch. I mentioned this in "Should I varnish acrylic paint on paper?" However, I solve the issue, so I'm going to keep the varnish finish on my small paintings on paper, because I think it looks better! This post is about a technical issue and is perhaps more aimed at those who enjoy working in arts and crafts. So how did I proceed?

#1 Como escolher o verniz mais adequado?

Conversar com outros artistas é sempre bom para expandir o nosso conhecimento. Falei com uma artista plástica que me aconselhou um verniz à base de água. Fui à loja onde costumo ir e pedi o verniz, mas apresentei também a minha questão. Ora, o verniz que eu utilizava era de uma marca excelente e o mais recomendado para utilizar em papel e a senhora da loja reforçou isso novamente. Mas, como não resultava a 100%, trouxe um verniz de outra marca, também para todas as superfícies e tintas, como a tinta acrílica. E, resultou super bem! Já não vem à conversa a questão do clima, conforme falei no post que referi ao início.

A conclusão a que cheguei, e com a ajuda da senhora da loja, é a de que o acrílico, sendo aplicado em camadas, deixa uma textura plástica não suficientemente porosa para o primeiro verniz. Como o segundo pode ser utilizado em superfícies menos porosas resultou no verniz ideal! Assim, continuarei a desenvolver o meu trabalho com este método ainda com mais gosto. Portanto, procurem novos produtos e soluções se surgir alguma questão nos vossos trabalhos artísticos, porque há muitas opções. Muitas vezes, os artistas plásticos desenvolvem métodos próprios que funcionam nas suas obras e sabem quais os produtos certos para usar.

#1 How to choose the right varnish? 

Talking to other artists is always good to expand our knowledge. I spoke with an artist who recommended a water-based varnish. I went to the store where I usually go and asked for the varnish, but I also presented my question. Well, the varnish I used was an excellent brand and the most recommended for using on paper and the lady at the store reinforced that again. But, as it didn't work 100%, I brought a varnish from another brand, also for all surfaces and paints, such as acrylic paint. And, it worked very well! The climate issue no longer comes into the conversation, as I said in the post I referred to at the beginning. 

The conclusion I reached, and with the help of the lady at the store, is that the acrylic, being applied in layers, leaves a plastic texture that is not porous enough for the first varnish. As the second one can be used on less porous surfaces it resulted in the ideal varnish! So, I will continue to develop my work with this method with even more pleasure. So, look for new products and solutions if any questions arise in your artwork, as there are many options. Often, artists develop their own methods and know what the right products to use.

#2 Que trabalhos devo envernizar?

Esta questão fica muito ao critério de cada artista também. Acima de tudo, é importante fornecer todas as informações sobre os trabalhos a possíveis compradores. Quando se pinta algum trabalho que seja para ser manuseado, como uma caixa multiúsos, o verniz dá uma proteção extra à pintura. Mas, neste caso, é ainda mais importante que o verniz fique completamente seco ao toque, porque um objeto que é constantemente manuseado também está mais exposto a partículas que podem aderir. O verniz também protege a pintura para uma limpeza mais superficial. No caso de pintura em tela o verniz também dará uma proteção extra e permitirá a limpeza, é muito importante. 

Quando a pintura é em papel o verniz é opcional e o seu uso tem principalmente um efeito estético. No meu caso, envernizo as pequenas pinturas em papel quando utilizo várias camadas de tinta acrílica e a folha não se vê. Nos postais, o brilho do verniz dá um acabamento especial. Podem ver alguns dos meus postais na etiqueta "Postais".

#2 What artworks should I varnish?

This question is very much at the criterion of each artist. Above all, it is important to provide all information to potential buyers. When painting something that is meant to be handled, such as an all-purpose box, the varnish gives the paint extra protection. But in this case, it is even more important that the varnish is completely dry to the touch, because an object that is constantly handled is also more exposed to particles that can adhere to it. The varnish also protects the paint for a more superficial cleaning. In the case of painting on canvas, the varnish will also provide extra protection and allow cleaning, it is very important.

When painting on paper, varnish is optional and its use mainly has an aesthetic effect. In my case, I varnish the small paintings on paper when I use several layers of acrylic paint and the paper cannot be seen. On postcards, the gloss of the varnish gives it a special finish. #3 Que trabalhos não preciso de envernizar?

Há trabalhos que não envernizo, são aqueles em que a folha de papel permanece visível, com algumas manchas e pinceladas de tinta. Penso que não faz sentido aplicar verniz. É o caso das pinturas abstratas em formato pequeno como aquela que apresento na imagem. A pintura abstrata da foto acima tem tamanho A5 e o valor de 39€.
